Vincent Price, Roger Corman production, Elizabeth Shepherd, story Edgar Allan Poe / Boris Karloff, Dir: Mario Bava

Tom Chantrell

They don't come much better than this superbly painted Anglo Amalgamated Warner-Pathe 'X' certificate double-bill horror film poster. The depth of colour and the superb artwork makes this one of the best horror double-bills ever produced. "The Tomb of Ligeia" is a classic Edgar Allan Poe story with superb direction by Roger Corman. Vincent Price is portrayed as the husband who believes that his new bride has been possessed by the evil spirit of his late first wife (both played by Elizabeth Shepherd) The artwork captures the scene perfectly even including the black cat, the coffin and the bat. The film is set in England in the 1820's with great photography by Arthur Grant. "Black Sabbath" is courtesy of the Italian director genius Mario Bava with Boris Karloff pictured who adopts the master of ceremonies role introducing three classic tales including Boris Karloff as a vampire. British artist Tom Chantrell adopts a fantastic palette of colour with fine detail including many scenes from this splendid portmanteau horror. Printed by Stafford & Co of Nottingham and London. Excellent folded film poster with historic tape marks at the very top border.
