Looking closely at the boiler hat and glasses we can see through the lens the meaning of the title - the Bulldog with the listening bug enabling spying on the Russians. The film dates from 1966 in a decade when the spy thriller enjoyed phenomenal success. This one sets its stall out clearly as a comedy picturing comedy actor Lionel Jeffries and Daliah Lavi providing sex appeal, a hint of danger with a gun and silencer and frilly pom pom heels all in colours to match. There is a fine supporting cast including Eric Sykes and Denholm Elliott together with screenplay by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson of "Steptoe" fame.
