1953

Rishard Burton, Jean Simmons, Victor Mature, Micheal Rennie

Tom Chantrell

This was the first film to be released in CinemaScope and the logo is displayed prominently on the poster. This Chantrell artwork is designed to maximise the appeal of Richard Burton. Burton's first film "Now Barabbas was a Robber" was made in 1949 and this in 1953 so it is not a first release quad. The artwork on this poster is excellent and dates most likely from 1964 following the success of "Cleopatra" the previous year. Jean Simmons was a big box office draw following the success of Spartacus in 1960 so her name is linked first after Burton's. Two match stick head sized pinholes in the left and centre fold line.
