This 1960 first release British Quad film poster won an Oscar for Best Picture with Albert Finney and Rachel Roberts also winning Academy Awards. The author Alan Sillitoe draws on his own experiences of factory life and this "Kitchen Sink" classic film treats the working classes with respect. Finney has a convincing belligerence towards authority and a tenderness towards the married woman (Roberts) he seduces. In his own words "What I want is a good time. The rest is all propaganda."
