Sapphire

The young woman pictured is Yvonne Mitchell who was nominated for Best Actress award at the British Academy Awards for her part as Mildred - a young black woman passing herself off as white. This helps perhaps explain the artists use of very uneven skin toning on the face, hands and legs. The garish use of colour adds to the mystery. Won the BAFTA for Best British film. Printed by Charles & Read of London and Harlow. The condition of the 1959 poster is folded, although not affecting the display this film poster does have large closed tears measuring 8 inch and 6 inch at the left and right border which we have repaired using archival restoration tape.
