"Captain January" starring Shirley Temple from 1936 is the large title printed on the reverse of the film poster due to wartime paper shortage and is the earlier of the films. Stone litho printing is incredible and once you have seen it there is nothing quite like it. "Ladies in Retirement " was made during the Second World War in 1941 in black and white and this is the second film featured on this film poster. Charles Vidor directed this dramatic film. This dramatic crime film with Ida Lupino starring as the wild eyed house keeper to a retired actress (Isobel Elsom) who then plots against the actresses sisters played by Elsa Lanchester and Edith Barrett. A clever film where the viewer is inclined to feel sympathy to the house keeper despite her devilish behaviour. This is a very old film poster and has small tears at junctions of the fold lines. The film poster features a charming old Columbia Pictures logo together with a three-penny-bit British Board of Film Censors logo printed by Stafford & Co. Try finding another one of these!
