Superb artwork depicting the theft of a female cadaver from the grave and the two grave robbers under the light of the moon. The other painted scene reveals three scantily clad prostitutes seeking the attention of a Victorian gentleman. Based on a true story "Burke and Hare" along with many others profited from the need for medical research students to have fresh corpses to study in order to advance medical science. These two Irishmen where the most notorious grave robbers in what was an alarming trade as surgeons needed the freshest of corpses and this led to crime. Printed in England by Lonsdale & Bartholomew.
