Rare "2001: A Space Odyssey" original 1968 3D lenticular advertising from the first release of the film in cinemas. The lenticular advertising for 2001 ranks amongst the rarest and most collectible pieces of sci-fi memorabilia. Commissioned by MGM and Stanley Kubrick the campaign used cutting-edge lenticular technology for theatrical presentation which is highly prized by collectors today. This 3D item was produced by Toppan a firm in Japan renowned for their fine lenses. Because the production costs were very high only a limited number were produced making surviving examples very scarce. The artwork features the astronauts taking measurements and data from their lunar explorations on the moon. The lenticular has a magnificent visual depth with the five astronauts, space vehicles and camera which can only be appreciated in the flesh and not on the computer screen. The reverse of the postcard has not been used. The lenticular displays really well.
