"Sink the Bismarck!" was filmed in black and white in 1960 being released at the cinema on the 11th February 1960. The film was directed by Lewis Gilbert and distributed by 20th Century Fox as a CinemaScope picture. The artwork for this film poster was by the Great British artist Eric Pulford who painted a superb action scene featuring the German battleship Bismarck under attack from what we think are Swordfish torpedo bomber planes. The film was praised by critics for its historical accuracies with the film poster artwork a great testament to this important event which helped the protection of British ships in the Atlantic. The artwork includes a great painting of Kenneth More as Captain Jonathan Shepard and Dana Wynter as Anne Davis. The printers for the film poster are Stafford & Co. of Netherfield, Nottingham & London from the writing on the reverse we know that the film was shown on Thursday 22nd September at the Regent cinema but we do not know what year this was - it is possible it may have been 1960 or 1966 or maybe a little later - we do not know. This great World War II film poster is in folded condition as supplied to the cinema with great colours presenting really well without pinholes.
