Included with the sale of this poster is the original envelope date stamped 11th May 1971 at the West Bromwich Post Office bearing the advert for the printers "Joseph Wones Ltd." of West Bromwich Staffs. The address on the envelope is to "The Manager, ABC Cinema, Wellington Street, Woolwich, London S.E.18". This original poster with very deep strong colours was printed in England by Lonsdale & Bartholomew (Nottingham) Ltd. and was then sent to the ABC printers to be over printed at the top specifically for the Woolwich cinema. As can be seen by the dates the over printing with the cinema name was done in a big hurry as the film was to be shown just five days after name printing on Sunday May 16th. This has led to an interesting small 'W' bleed at the top name strip. The signature of the artist Arnaldo Putzu can be clearly seen just above Michael Caine's collar. This is appropriate because as an Italian the artist had a great sense of fashion and style and he has painted here with terrific imagination the coat which Michael Caine would maybe have loved to have worn but never did for the film. The quality of the artwork captures the spirit of this brilliant film whose popularity just seems to grow year on year. The paper quality of this film poster is superb and this folded poster bears no pinholes. We do not know of a better example of this film poster with the history and provenance attached with it. The postage paid in 1971 was just 03 pence and in the day that was enough to secure the safe arrival at the cinema in time for the show date. Such confidence - those were the days!
