The Great Race

This amazing 1965 film poster captures perfectly the slapstick whacky races atmosphere that Blake Edwards successfully created in the film. Jack Lemmon as Professor Fate sporting a dastardly moustache and glass of champagne competes with clean cut Tony Curtis in the 1908 automobile race from New York to Paris. British agency artists always shared skills and ideas and this is a classic example with Tom Chantrell painting the three full figure portraits and Colin Leary excelling also with the wonderfully imaginative automobiles in true cartoon characterisation. Both artists have their printed signatures on the posters and have clearly had a ball entering into the spirit of this wonderful 1965 comedy embracing "the great pie fight" and "the mad automobile race!" This is a difficult poster to find. The poster has very bright colours with excellent artwork and no pinholes as issued to the cinema in 1965.
