The author Alan Sillitoe draws on his own experiences of factory life and this "Kitchen Sink" classic film treats the working classes with respect. Finney has a convincing belligerence towards authority and a tenderness towards the married woman (Roberts) he seduces. In his own words "What I want is a good time. The rest is all propaganda."
