This talented send-up of Star Trek works so well as the actors from a cult sci-fi tv show are mistaken for the real thing and recruited to save a dying alien race. Alan Rickman plays the grumpy English actor moaning about his half reptilian character as the film works as a satire on the acting profession and as a parody of sci-fi fans.

This is the original British quad but printed with a different two colour process. The results are not entirely satisfactory and this may account for the heavy wear in the folds as onlookers have repeatedly opened and closed it in disbelief. When you have seen the full colour one, this one is found wanting.

| Comments |
Alan Arkin gives an Oscar nominated performance as John Singer, the deaf-mute who attempts to bring peace and harmony to a fellow mute and also to the adolescent tom-boy played by Sondra Locke also nominated for an Oscar. Chantrells fine study of the human hands bring acute sensitivity to the work and the warmth of colour in the heart shape is designed to give hope to the anxious looking young girl portrayed within. For a deaf-mute perhaps the best way of communication is through the hands and the ability to touch and express warmth this way hence the important emphasis here on the otherwise out of proportion hands.

Chantrell captures in fine detail the opulence of the ballroom together with the scenes from the film involving the carriage crash and the gates of the Chateau. Omar Sharif and Catherine Deneuve are the tragic lovers unable to come to terms with the Crown Prince of Austria denied release from a loveless marriage. The lovers spend 24 wonderful hours together at Mayerling before he shoots her and then himself. The smoking gun can be seen at the foot of the poster and the design is such that it is the last thing we see having read the title.

This interesting artwork by Tom Chantrell portrays the two sets of couples in bed together with the brick wall between them indicating that they are neighbours. The 'X' certificate confirms that this adaptation by John Mortimer of 'Rumpole' fame from the play by Georges Feydeau was considered a risque farce in it's day. The sixties bedspread is a wonderful creation - but do gentlemen really wear straw boaters in bed.

British artist Tom Chantrell paints the tobacco farm fire at the foot of the poster using the flames and the red colour of the tractor to signify the passions involved with the explosion into manhood for American star Troy Donahue as he copes with three girls and their differing passions. The poster deliberately has a masculine format as supported by the tagline and the addition of 'HIS NAME IS' to the title. The three girls names appear in red at the foot of the poster and the embrace is mainly red too.

This fantastic full colour stone-litho printed British quad has survived in rolled condition since 1947. The sumptious use of colours marvelously recreates the 16th Century Spanish conquest of Mexico. The incredibly detailed small touches include the very fine necklace with a cross worn by Jean Peters together with the Spanish style earings hair, make-up and clothing. Alfred Newman's score is one of the earliest soundtracks to be released as a separate album. It consisted of 18 minutes of music on 3 double-sided 78rpm records. The smoky usage of the colours gold and ochre set the scene perfectly and the Spanish armour looks magnificent.

Back in 1970 many found it difficult to embrace the possibility of a loving couple both in wheelchairs able to enjoy a sexual relationship. The artist Arnaldo Putzu cleverly uses a grey wash in order to remove the mechanics of the situation in order that we may focus on "Bruce and Jill, the extraordinary lovers" in the absense of all that is ordinary. Nanette Newman under the direction of her real life husband Bryan Forbes is painted brilliantly to portray that look of blissful happiness and hope that can transcend all limitations.

The landscape painted by Tom Chantrell is that of Wessex and Thomas Hardy's novel adapted film was shot in Wessex in the UK. The film poster makes refrence to Julie Christie's role in "Doctor Zhivago". Chantrell's depiction of the three images of Julie Christie together with her three prospective suitors employs a colonial style with more exotic hues than one would have expected from Hardy's Wessex. Please note that the centerfold under Julie Christie's chin has weakenned along a 6 inch section with partial paper-loss which has been backed with archival tape to the reverse.
