| Details | This is the very first release British quad for "Carry On Cleo" this is the rarest British quad of all the Carry ons and we know of only one other having survived. This particular artwork was the subject of a well documented legal case as 20th Century Fox had a problem as they felt this image harmful to their film "Cleopatra" which had been released the previous year with a quad painted by the same artist depicting a similar format with Rex Harrison and Richard Burton flanking Cleopatra. This "Carry on Cleo" quad with Charles Hawtrey pointing a mocking finger to the scene which was obviously taking the mickey on such a big budget film having been released so previous was just too much to bear and they took offence. Fox won the case which led to the withdrawal and destruction of the few British quads that had already been printed and the instigation of the infamous hastily designed "Sphinx" quad which no artist would own up to creating! |
